Atalanta-Parma, AC Milan-Chievo the “Beppe Viola” semis

An emotional roller coaster in Garda Trentino brought Chievo to overwhelm AS Roma, Atalanta drove back titleholder Torino’s reaction. AC Milan’s Capone scored the decisive point with few seconds to go, Parma joined the penultimate stage exceeding any expectation

With still three days to go to the winners’ awarding, the 48th edition of Trofeo Beppe Viola international U17 tournament turned out as an emotional roller coaster in the third and decisive day of preliminary stage with a lot of surprises.

Afterwards, Atalanta-Parma and AC Milan-Chievo will be the two semis to be held tomorrow, Sunday March 10th, in Arco – Via Pomerio.

GROUP  A – ATALANTA MOVES ON, TITLEHOLDER RESIGNED

The last two winner of Trofeo Beppe Viola – Atalanta (2016 e 2017) and Torino (2018) faced each other in Arco – Via Pomerio venue. After Atalanta dominated the first half with Antonio Reda scoring twice, Torino had a positive reaction halving the gap with Favale but no more. Brondby dominated USD Arco in the second match of the Group A with an eloquent 5-0 score.

GROUP B- CAPONE’S SCORE ON EDGE EXCITES AC MILAN

AC Milan resolved its challenge with Hellas Verona taking the Group B lead after a breathtaking 2-1 win against SS Lazio. Rossoneri’s striker Andrea Capone was the “man of the match” by scoring with a few seconds to the finish his fourth goal in the tournament that compelled SS Lazio to surrender (2-1). “We never gave up, and now I’m super happy we succeeded – Capone explained -. With such a great emotion on us, we can definitely aim to win the tournament”.

Meantime, in Riva del Garda-Varone, the Rappresentativa Dilettanti halted Hellas Verona’s ambitions. Rising star Philip Yeboah gave the Venetia club a 2-2 draw, but it wasn’t good enough to join the semis.

GROUP C – PARMA TO SEMIS, SS NAPOLI BROUGHT UP THE REAR

Surprise and disappointment typified the Group C, as Parma exceeded expectations sealing to the penultimate stage while SSC Napoli brought up the rear with zero points. Parma bagged the direct challenge with a 3-2 score in Arco Bolognano, Friday’s defeat vs. Parma after penalties costed a lot to SPAL whose Thursday’s victory versus SSC Napoli proved to be vain afterwards.

GROUP D – CHIEVO’S JACKPOT DESTROYED AS ROMA

Strong defence and fast break are the lethal weapons of ChievoVerona, that confirmed its feeling with Trofeo Beppe Viola, reaching the semi-finals for the fourth time in the last six editions of the International U17 tournament. After the elimination from the UEFA Champions League, the downward trend of AS Roma continued in Garda Trentino. ChievoVerona prevailed with a 4-1 score, thanks to the goals marked by Bonini (5’ pt), Merci (3’ st), Florenzi (11’ st) and Bontempi (32’ st). AS Roma shortened the gap in the finale with a goal by Milanese (35’ st).

FC Partizan prevailed on Rappresentativa Trentino in the second match of the Group D, ended with a 2-1 score for the Serbian club. Partizan went up by two with Milivojevic (2’) and Amadori’s own goal. In the second half, Trentino scored one back with Toniotti (37’) for the final 2-1.
