The Inzaghi brothers' derby from the "Beppe Viola" to the Serie A

Five years after the head-to-head in the 42nd edition of Arco's event, Simone and Pippo will challenge again in Italy's top league, as Lazio and Bologna's coaches respectively

When the fixtures schedule of next Serie A championships will be released, we’ll know when Bologna‘s new coach Filippo “Pippo” Inzaghi will try to take revenge on his brother Simone, SS Lazio‘s manager since 2016 with brilliant results.

Maybe not many people remember that the Inzaghi brothers challenged only one time since they became trainers, in the key-match of 42nd Trofeo Beppe Viola‘s day-3 on March 16th, 2013. A few months before, Pippo had been called to lead AC Milan‘s U17 team whilst Simone was the coach of SS Lazio U17. The most important Italy’s national media alsa reported about this event.

The one-two of the little genius Mamadou Tounkara led the SS Lazio to success. The blue and white team also won the semi-final against Napoli, before losing against Hellas Verona. Simone Inzaghi’s team missed Tounkara stopped by a yellow card naively “earned” in the semi-final. After that season, Simone Inzaghi has lead SS Lazio Primavera and then, since 2016, replaced Pioli on SS Lazio’s main team.

Two years later the adventure on AC Milan U17’s bench, through a season with the Rossoneri’s Primavera, Pippo came to lead AC Milan’s first squad. Tenth in the Serie A, out of the European competitions, the oldest Inzaghi end his experience with AC Milan without any glory. Pippo has then showed his skills at the lead of the Venezia, winning the Lega Pro championships and going up to Serie B, where he achieved the qualification to the play-offs. This summer he was back to manage a Serie A team and he can’t wait to turn the tables on Lazio and his brother Simone.
